Materials Needed :
• 2 identical quarters (or other coins)
• Some transparent tape or magicians wax (can be bought at most magic supply stores)
How the Trick Appears:
You pose a participant to hold out their hand palm up. You place your hand on top of their hand -- palm down. With your other hand you place a quarter on top of your hand and show that with one quick slap of the quarter you will make it pass through your hand and into their hand.
How the Trick Works:
• When you put your palm on top of the participants open hand, you will already have the quarter in your palm. (It is probable that need to practice "palming a coin " first).
• If you put your hand on their hand promptly enough, the quarter will not fall nor will the participant feel it in their hand! You then place the additional quarter on top -- on the reverse of your hand.
• The palm of your hand which is not touching the participants hand, is where the tape or wax needs to be.
• Then with a swift motion, you slap the top quarter, which becomes stuck to the tape/wax. Slowly remove your other hand to permit the surprised participant to view how the quarter "magically" passed through your hand and into their palm. Call it osmosis.
How the Trick Works:
• First you need paper and pencils for yourself and every member in the group. On your paper write "celery" one side of the paper, and "carrot" on the other side. Do this prior to the performance, and keep the paper stored in your pocket.
• Hand out the paper and pencils to everyone in the group.
• Inform your audience that they are going to participate in a mind reading exercise, but first they need to prepare their minds with a bit of a math quiz. Tell them that it is very important to write their answers FAST. If they miss questions its ok... the most important thing is that they write the answers as quickly as possible.
• Now. Start drilling out simple math questions like "1+2", 3+5", "4x2". One after another, with only enough time for them to scribble down the answers frantically.
• After you have rattled off a good series of 8 to 12 math problems stop and suddenly say:
"Write Down the Name the First Vegetable that Comes to Mind!!!".
• Now take the peice of paper you have in your pocket out. Ask if anyone in the audience wrote down "Carrot"...and show the audience your paper -- You'll be suprized at the result. Ask if any of the remainder people have chosen "Celery", and flip your peice of paper over to show the other result.
Effect
:Pour some water into a cup, blow on the cup and then turn it upside down where out pops some ice cubes.
You need a cup or glass that you can't see through. You also need a small sponge and some ice cubes.
Method :
Prepare the cup by placing the sponge into the bottom of the cup. Then, drop a few ice cubes on top of the sponge and you're ready to go.
To perform pour a small amount of water (about an inch) into the cup. The sponge will absorb the water. Blow into the cup, wave your hands over it and dump out the ice cubes. If you are using a disposible plastic cup for the trick, just throw it away at this time. Watch the look of surprise on your friends faces.
Street magic style trick where an ordinary playing card instantly changes into the spectators chosen card right in front of his eyes.
Effect:
A spectator chooses a card, looks at it and returns it to the deck. The magician then boasts about about how sensitive his fingertips are and about how he can find the spectators selected card by feeling the deck. He then riffles his fingers across the sides of the pack a few times and removes a card from near the middle of the deck. The magician then proudly announces that this is the spectators card and shows it. The spectator announces that it is not. The magician then asks the name of the spectators card and when told, the card he holds visibly switches to the spectators chosen card.
Method:
Have a card selected and controlled to the top. (Methods of controlling cards and forcing a card can be found in this and other sites or magician sleight books at your local library) Now remove one card at random from the middle of the pack. While showing this card and asking if it's the correct one, get a finger break under the top card with your left pinky. This is easily done by holding the deck in the left hand in position for dealing and pushing the top card out with the thumb getting your little finger under it and then squaring the cards back up. When the spectators has very happily informed you that you are wrong, lay the card face up on top of the pack. Square up the cards and remove the top two cards as one. You now have what amounts to a double faced card. When removing the card(s), take it palm down between the middle finger and the thumb with the forefinger resting about the middle . When you wish to make the card change, move the forefinger next to the thumb and make the card bend away from you (concave). You can now almost grip the one corner between thumb and forefinger. Release the corner with the middle finger and let the card snap around! (Fig 2) You will need to turn your hand a little, as well. Exactly how far you will need to turn your hand, will come with experience from practicing the trick. The two cards keep together really well after a little practice.
To polish off this jewel of a trick, drop the card(s) back on top of the deck and take the top (face up chosen ) card and place it on the table, then cut the deck. This will ensure that no one can check if the card had been a double faced one.
